STORY 16
Jason: Good afternoon Katie, Zach. Thanks for coming.
ジェイソン：こんにちは、ケイティー、ザック。集まってくれてありがとう。
Zach: No problem.
ザック：いえいえ。
Katie: We are here to talk about the new website, aren't we?
ケイティー：新しいウェブサイトのことを話すんでしょ？
Jason: Exactly. So as you may have heard, we are going to be redesigning our website.
ジ：そうだよ。もう聞いてるかもしれないけど、ウチの会社のウェブサイト、今度デザインを変えるんだ。
Zach: Actually, I hadn't heard about that.
ザ：僕は聞いてないけど。
Katie: Yes, we will be redoing the whole website.
ケ：実はそうなの。ウェブサイトを丸ごと作り変えるのよ。
Zach: Is that to change the look of the website?
ザ：ウェブサイトの見た目を変えるってこと？
Jason: Yes. We will be changing the look of the website, but we will also be adding more functions.
ジ：そうだよ。見た目も変えるし、もっと機能を盛り込むんだ。
Zach: What kind of functions?
ザ：どんな機能？
Katie: Now we are selling some of our clothing items online, but we will start selling our full range on the site.
ケ：ウチの会社はいま、一部の服をネット販売してるけど、今度、全製品をネット販売するのよ。
Zach: When will that begin?
ザ：それはいつから？
Katie: As soon as possible.
ケ：できるかぎリ早くよ。
Jason: But there is a lot of work we have to do first. We have to improve the security of the site to make it safe for customers to use their credit cards.
ジ：まず手始めにやらなきゃいけないことがたくさんある。サイトのセキュリティーを高めて、クレジットカードで安全に買い物ができるようにするんだ。
Katie: We also have to develop an inventory system. For example, if an item is sold out, we have to be able to show that on the site, so people do not buy things we aren't able to ship to them.
ケ：在庫システムも開発しなきや。たとえば、１つのアイテムが売り切れたら、それをサイトに表示できるようにするとかね。そうすれば、在庫がないのにお客さんが発注してしまう、ということを防げるわ。
Jason: We will also be redesigning the look of the site to make it clear to visitors that we have a new site.
ジ：サイトを新しくしたってことをわかってもらうために、見た目もガラッと変えるんだ。
Katie: We would also like to develop functions on the site that recommend items to users based on what they have bought before.
ケ：それから、購入履歴から判断して、ユーザーにおすすめのアイテムを教える、という機能も付けたいわ。
Zach: That sounds like a lot of work.
ザ：それは骨が折れそうだな。
Jason: It's going to be a lot of work, that's for sure.
ジ：骨が折れそう、うんたしかに。
Katie: But we are hoping that this is really going to boost our sales figures.
ケ：これで売上高が上がると期待してるの。
Zach: And who is going to build this site?
ザ：サイトを作るのはだれ？
Jason: That is something we have to decide, and decide soon.
ジ：それを決めなきゃいけないんだよ。すぐに。
Katie: We are thinking of doing it in house.
ケ：社内で作ろうと思ってるの。
Jason: Another option is to hire a web design company to do it for us.
ジ：それか、もしくはウェブデザインの会社を使うか。
Zach: That sounds like a tough decision. If we do it in house, who would make the site?
ザ：それは難しい決断だね。もし社内でやるとしたら、誰が作るの？
Jason: Basically, I would be in charge of the visual design, and the IT team would take care of the functions.
ジ：基本的に、ビジュアル面は僕、機能面はIT部だろうね。
Katie: How feasible is that?
ケ：社内でやれそう？
Jason: I'm sure that I could handle the visual design. I think our IT team could do it, but they would be very busy.
ジ：ビジュアルなところはやれると思うよ。機能面も、ウチでできると思うけど、でもIT部はめちゃめちゃ忙しくなるだろうなあ。
Katie: Yes, our IT department is only two people.
ケ：そうね、ウチのIT部は２人しかいないものね。
Jason: I think they have the skills to do the job, but they are already busy. And a big project like this would make them really busy.
ジ：彼らはそれだけの技術を持ってると思うけど、でも今すでに忙しそう。今回のようなビッグなプロジェクトがあると、IT部はホントに忙しくなっちゃうんだよね。
Katie: It might be a problem if they are not able to do their regular work during the time they are working on this.
ケ：今回のプロジェクトをやってる間、IT部が通常の業務をできなくなると、問題よね。
Zach: Yes, that's true. How long would it take to develop the new site?
ザ：それはそうだね。新しいサイトを作るのにどれくらいかかりそう？
Jason: A month, maybe six weeks.
ジ：１か月、もしくは６週間ってとこ。
Katie: That's not so long.
ケ：じゃあ、そんなに長くないじゃない？
Zach: What are the pros and cons of going with an outside company?
ザ：他社にやらせるメリット・デメリットは？
Katie: Well, our team wouldn't be busy during the project.
ケ：私たちチームが、忙しくならずに済むわ。
Jason: Yes, but we would still have to take time to explain what kind of site we want.
ジ：それはそうだけど、どんなサイトにしてほしいのか、説明する時間は必要だよ。
Katie: Yes, that's true.
ケ：それはそうね。
Zach: How much would it cost?
ザ：費用はどれくらいかかるの？
Katie: We are not sure yet.
ケ：まだわからないわ。
Zach: Well, I would say the first thing we do is to get some estimates from a few design companies, then we can better decide what to do.
ザ：まず最初に、いくつかのデザイン会社から見積りを出してもらおうよ。そうしたら、どうしたらいいか、わかってくると思うよ。
Katie: That sounds like a good idea.
ケ：それ、グッドアイデアね。
Jason: It sure does. Let's do that.
ジ：そうだな。そうしよう。
